Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are a key instrument for presenting the energy quality of buildings in a transparent and comparable manner. They show at a glance how much energy a building requires, which efficiency class it achieves and where improvements are worthwhile. This provides clear guidance for owners, investors and tenants.
There are two variants:
- Demand-based certificates are based on technical data on the building envelope and system technology. They calculate the energy requirement independently of user behavior and are particularly suitable for new buildings or little-used buildings.
- Consumption certificates take into account the actual energy consumption of recent years. They show actual usage patterns, but can vary considerably depending on user behavior.
Banks are also increasingly using energy performance certificates when granting loans, as the energy quality of a building has become a key factor in determining its value and financing risk.
At the same time, holistic infrastructure concepts are becoming increasingly important in order to make locations, districts and companies resilient and climate-compatible. Coordinated solutions for heat generation, photovoltaics and charging infrastructure can sustainably reduce energy requirements, operating costs and CO₂ emissions. They create planning security in the face of increasing regulatory requirements and enable the optimal technical and economic use of renewable energies.
